Global Solo Challenge

Sailing solo nonstop around the world - 2027

Founded by Marco Nannini, a former banker and accomplished sailor who placed second overall in the Global Ocean Race 2011 - 2012.

The event emphasizes fairness by using a staggered start format where boats depart at different times based on their performance characteristics, ensuring faster boats must catch up with slower ones.

The race covers approximately 26,000 nautical miles along the clipper route, circumnavigating the globe by the three great capes—Cape Good Hope, Cape Leeuwin, and Cape Horn—while avoiding the Antarctic exclusion zone due to ice risks.

The second edition is scheduled for 2027–2028, starting and finishing in Vigo, Galicia, Spain, and is open to monohull yachts over 32 feet, including production boats and racing designs like Class 40, Open  50, and IMOCA 60, with the goal of promoting affordability and environmental sustainability through the use of widely available, pre-2005 production vessels.

A single-handed, non-stop, round-the-world yacht race which began in 2023

and is designed to be accessible to sailors regardless of budget.
