Sponsorship

A great opportunity to engage in global publicity and advertising for a small investment.

Around the world for the price of a pint!

By contributing just the price of a pint, or any other beverage, to my crowd funding, you will have a horse in the race, and a sense of real participation!

Back in 2000, I had the good fortune to spend nine unforgettable months as a student at the Boat Building Academy in Lyme Regis, learning the traditional skills and craftsmanship involved in building a wooden boat from the ground up that led to the building of Taqua II and the Global Solo Challenge.

Check out their great boatbuilding and woodworking courses. https://boatbuildingacademy.com/

Record Audience and International Reach

The first edition of the Global Solo Challenge attracted 2.2 million website visitors and 13.2 million page views, while social media platforms amassed over 134,000 followers and reached 10.2 million people. Combined with 25 million reached through skippers’ personal social media, the event achieved broad visibility. Television distribution reached 106 channels across 157 countries, with an estimated 40 million viewers, significantly expanding the event’s footprint beyond the traditional sailing audience.

Organizers noted that despite a budget approximately 1% of the Vendée Globe, the GSC’s media performance was remarkably strong, particularly in the U.S., where Cole Brauer’s participation sparked a media surge. Major outlets including ABC News, NBC News, CBS News, Fox News, and the New York Post covered her journey, highlighting her as the first American woman to complete a solo nonstop circumnavigation via the three great capes.

Recognition in the Sailing Press and Industry Analysis

The GSC has been positively received within the sailing community, with French media affectionately referring to it as the “Petit Vendée Globe for amateurs”—a nod to its accessibility while maintaining high competitive standards. Industry analysis from Sail-World.com and Livesaildie.com emphasized the “harsh reality” of the race, noting that more than half of the starters retired, underscoring the extreme physical and mental demands.

Coverage often focused on themes of resilience, personal challenge, and adventure later in life, exemplified by skippers like Ross Hubbard, whose childhood dream of circumnavigation was reignited by a National Geographic documentary. These narratives have helped position the GSC not just as a race, but as a global human story of perseverance.

I’m delighted to have Marlow Ropes supporting my Global Solo Challenge campaign, supplying top-quality ropes for my running rigging.

When you’re preparing a boat for a solo, non-stop passage around the world, the running rigging has to be something you can depend on. Strength, reliability and performance really matter, and Marlow’s expertise and quality make their ropes a natural choice for the campaign.

A huge thank you to the team at Marlow for their support and for helping me prepare the boat for the miles ahead.
